If you’re a parent, chances are you’ve wondered at least once, “What if my child doesn’t cooperate?”
I hear this question all the time, and I want to reassure you of something: your children don’t need to perform for the camera. They don’t need to smile on command, sit perfectly still, or have a “perfect” day for us to create beautiful photographs.
In fact, some of my favorite images happen when children are simply being themselves.
With a little preparation and the right expectations, your session can feel relaxed, joyful, and full of meaningful moments.

Whenever possible, try to schedule your day around naps and meals. A well rested child who has had a good snack is much more likely to feel comfortable and ready to explore. If your session falls close to bedtime, don’t worry. I’ll work with your family’s rhythm and make the most of the beautiful evening light.
Bringing a few favorite snacks and a water bottle is always a great idea, especially for younger children.
Instead of telling your little ones they’ll be taking pictures, try talking about it as a family adventure.
Tell them you’ll be walking on the beach, playing together, giving lots of hugs, or exploring somewhere new. The less pressure they feel to “smile for the camera,” the more naturally they’ll settle into the experience.
Children respond so much better when they feel like they’re simply spending time with the people they love.

It’s completely normal if your toddler wants to be held for a while, takes a few minutes to warm up, or decides they’d rather explore than look at the camera.
That’s okay.
Some of the sweetest photographs come from those authentic moments. A child reaching for your hand, resting their head on your shoulder, or running toward you with a big smile tells a much richer story than a perfectly posed portrait ever could.
One of the biggest gifts you can give your children during your session is staying relaxed yourself. Kids are incredibly intuitive, and they often mirror the energy of the adults around them.
If something doesn’t go exactly as planned, don’t worry. I’ll gently guide your family, redirect little ones when needed, and create space for breaks whenever they happen naturally.
There’s no rush, and there’s no expectation that everything has to be perfect.

At the end of the day, your children won’t remember being asked to smile.
They’ll remember being wrapped up in your arms.
They’ll remember laughing together, running barefoot, reading a favorite book, or snuggling close while you whispered something that made them giggle.
Those are the moments I want to preserve.
The most meaningful photographs are the ones that reflect who your children truly are in this season of life. Their curiosity, their wonder, their silly expressions, and even the little moments of shyness are all part of their story.
My goal isn’t to create perfect photographs. It’s to preserve your family exactly as you are, because one day these wonderfully ordinary moments will become the memories you treasure most.
So take a deep breath, trust the process, and let your little ones simply be little. I’ll take care of the rest.

These seasons of life pass more quickly than we realize. Whether you're welcoming a new baby, chasing little feet, or simply soaking in the beauty of everyday moments, this experience is designed to preserve what matters most with honesty, care, and intention.
